After so much time cooped up, I was determined to go for a walk this morning. The thermometer said it was 29 degrees out there (which was warmer than earlier!) so I figured I had better dress appropriately: thick socks, sweat pants, then ski bib, a sweater, a scarf, then a jacket*. On top of that, a stocking cap, Thinsulate® gloves, sunglasses and an MP3 player playing Christmas music.

I set off down the street and quickly came to a conclusion: I was over-dressed.

See, what I hadn’t counted on was what had actually drawn me to go walking in the first place: the sun. The thermometer might read 29, but out there in the sunshine and moving around, I warmed up in a hurry!

That thought came to mind and immediately brought this Scripture with it:

Revelation 21:22-23
And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. (GNB)

Isn’t the sun amazing? On this planet, we can’t live without it!

Once we get to heaven, we’ll have no more need of the sun. The light will be radiating from God himself. Maybe that’s why we like sunlight now so much, especially after days of gloom and clouds. It’s not just that we know we need the sun to survive, maybe down deep inside we like a sunny day because it reminds us of the glory of heaven!
