Boycott CA

Submitted by Sam White on Thu, 05/20/2010 - 14:17.

You may or may not have seen this on the news, but here a while back a prominent western state passed a law saying that anyone who is arrested by the police and is suspected of being in the United States illegally must produce documentation to show whether they are, indeed, here legally or not.

I’m betting you didn’t see this story on the news because the year was 2001 and the state was California. That’s right: the state that is currently trying to boycott Arizona for enforcing federal immigration laws also has a law on its books saying it’s up to California law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration laws. Therefore, I think everyone in Arizona ought to boycott California. I also think they should boycott Nebraska, but I can’t think of a reason why. Maybe I just don’t like Nebraska, OK?

I probably shouldn’t say that, as it could very well lead to my living in Nebraska. I say this because I have a long history of ending up living in places I used to swear I’d never want to live in. Growing up, I always wanted to live in Colorado, but I didn’t want to live in Denver. I didn’t like Denver, I would tell people. It was an ugly, big city. “I’ll live anywhere in Colorado,” I’d tell people, “Except Denver.” I finally got my wish to live in Colorado, and spent four years in Denver.

I didn’t want to live in Dumas, either. Granted, that was only because I didn’t know what wonderful people there were here or how to correctly pronounce the name, but I didn’t want to be here. Then divine providence sent me here and I decided to stay. At least until God sends me to Nebraska, I guess.

So, anyway, does it bug you as much as it does me that our whole country seems to be run by a state that has no sense of financial responsibility, pollutes our minds with horrible “entertainment”, and is constantly showing its hypocrisy on issues like this current immigration flap? Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we got our financial advice from Texas, our movies were made in Oklahoma and our environmentalism came from Mississippi?

I say we join Arizona in boycotting California. And, God, in case you’re thinking of sending me somewhere I don’t want to go, have I told you lately how much I hate skiing and REALLY don’t want a mountain chateau with a hot tub? Amen.
