One of my favorite movies is one from several years ago called “Something Wicked This Way Comes”. It was a Disney movie based on a Ray Bradbury story about a carnival that comes to town and the leader of the carnival—Mr. Dark—will fulfill people’s fantasies. The only hitch is that the people who take him up on his offer end up paying a price greater than what they received. The ugly old woman who dreams of being young and beautiful again gets her wish, but then goes blind and can’t see her beauty.

Remember that cute little kitten that used to appear in a mock-up of the old MGM logo and mew at the end of shows produced by Mary Tyler Moore? It occurs to me that that cat probably died twenty years ago.

You may or may not have seen this on the news, but here a while back a prominent western state passed a law saying that anyone who is arrested by the police and is suspected of being in the United States illegally must produce documentation to show whether they are, indeed, here legally or not.

5.16.10 – As we’ve been reading through Genesis, there have been a lot of people who appeared in the story for a while then disappeared from the narrative. Genesis tells of the creation of the world, but it’s not really the history of the world. It’s the history of one family: the family of Jesus.

Have they Found Noah's Ark?

Last week, there was a story on the news that archeologists from Turkey and China claim to have found Noah’s Ark. They found it on Mount Ararat, which squares with the Biblical narrative. Carbon dating—which has its own skeptics—of what they found indicates that it’s from about 4800 BC, which would put it in the right time frame for Noah. It was also WAY up on the mountain, which is another point in its favor.

5.9.10 – In Genesis 26 we read the story of Isaac and his wanderings. We find that he is a very wealthy man. He's got flocks and herds in even greater number than his father Abraham had.
