10.26.8 – Friendly Treasure
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (NIV)
We’ve heard this verse all our lives (those of us who have grown up in church). Even those outside the church have heard it.

10.19.8 – When You Fast
My family isn’t big on celebrating Halloween. It’s come to stand for a lot of things we don’t like. On the other hand, I like getting scared now and then. I like roller-coasters. I like a good scary movie (emphasis on good, like the old days when scary movies scared you with theme rather than with gore).
What’s the scariest verse in the Bible? Maybe you never thought about there being anything scary in the Bible, but I’m going to read a verse to you here in a bit that just might scare you.

I was at a men’s conference several years ago and the MC invited us all to a weekend of “chillin’ with God.” We were just going to “hang out with our best bud.” I guess he was trying to combat an attitude (maybe) that some people think of God as just being way out there and forgetting that we’re called to a personal relationship. It seemed, though, that he went too far. I do believe God wants to be familiar with us, but it’s by drawing us close to him.
