8.3.8 – Hunger in the Mourning
Matthew 5:3-10
God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

Remember last week when I talked about TV Guide? Did you ever read the description of an upcoming show and realize the sentence, however short, gives away too much of the show. Maybe it’s a mystery and the description tells you who did it.
Then, sometimes, there are descriptions that make you think the show is about one thing, but once you start watching it, it seems like it’s about something else. Or, it seems that way for the first half of the show, then things turn around, and you realize the description was pretty accurate after all.
Political Jokes

It's been reported by several media outlets that the professional comedians can't think of any jokes about Obama (this sounds better than admitting they're in the tank for him or just cowards), so I thought I'd offer the following—free of charge!—as a public service.
Q. Why doesn't Obama like the song "Margaritaville"?
A. Lives in mortal fear of blowing out one of his flip-flops.
Q. How come Obama made it all the way through Harvard without publishing any opinions?
A. William Ayers and Rev. Wright hadn't formed them for him yet.
How to Start Good News

Restart
Those of you who own computers know that, occasionally, you just have to turn it off and restart. And when you do that, 99% of the time, whatever was the problem before is now “cured”. It seems strange, but it’s not unheard of.
You mechanics, have you ever been working on a motor and you get done (you think) and it’s still not right, so you start over?
Or, maybe you go to the doctor and as he’s examining you, he starts asking questions like, when did this start? And maybe he eventually traces it back to some event quite a while back, or to some other problem.

One year back in the 1970s, the Texas Rangers were having a very bad year. Worst of all was their bullpen. Their starting pitchers weren’t very good, but their relief pitchers were even worse. An interviewer asked the Rangers manager how, when he made his call to the bullpen, he decided which pitcher to send in. The manager replied, “Whoever answers the phone.”
See, it didn’t really matter. None of their relief pitchers were distinguishing themselves in such as way as to lead the manager to say, “We gotta get that guy out there!”

A strange and troubled young woman made the news again. She's been in the news a lot lately. Why? Because she had a baby. Why is that news?
